Ama Dablam

Heading deep into the Himalayas realm, Amadablam Expedition is a technical adventure activity. The expedition route follows the southwest ridge and requires climbers to set up two camps from base camp. With a mix of rocks, snow, and steep slope of the ridge, and the final step to the summit, the expedition consists of various challenges. All in all, the ascent of Amadablam is one of the popular expeditions in the Himalayas.

Standing at the height of 6,812 meters, Mt. Amadablam lies to the south of the Khumbu Valley. Thanks to its surreal beauty, it is also dubbed as the ‘Matterhorn of the Himalayas’. Also, one of the technical climbs, this journey is a complete introduction to the Everest region. Starting from Lukla, the trip heads to the Amadablam base camp. Before arriving at the base camp, the climbers can ascend Island Peak 6189m or Lobuche Peak 6119m. In doing so, climbers can prepare to climb Amadablam and acclimatize to high altitude.

Upon arrival at base camp, the team begins the arduous ascent after a couple of days. The entire climbing takes place across a span of 13 days, where you partake in many climbing sessions. At the end of the ascent, the top of Amadablam offers a panorama of the mountains like Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), and Cho Oyu (8201m) among others. After the climb, you head back to Namche and continue to Lukla. Then, a flight back to Kathmandu brings the trip to a close.

Experience Required

Since it is more technical than peak climbing, climbers need to have experience of rock and ice climbing, use of ropes & crampons, and other skills. Needless to say, climbers also must have ideal physical and mental fitness for the climb. We will prepare for the climb by acclimatizing to high altitude and doing practice climbs. The autumn (September to November) is the ideal season to make an ascent of Amadablam.
