Dhaulagiri Circuit via French Pass

An authentic off-beat adventure, Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek explores the discreet Hidden Valley to the north of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m). Challenging the adversities of the remote Dhaulagiri region, the trek visits several base camps including Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Also, the trekking route traverses across a variety of trails from glacial moraines to steep rock beds. Moreover, the culture and heritage of the Thakali community offer joyful breaks on the journey.

Apart from being the 7th highest mountain in the world, Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m) is also a difficult expedition in the Himalayas. The mountain itself lies to the west of the Annapurna range and Kali Gandaki River Valley. All in all, the region around the Dhaulagiri range houses many natural wonders. One of the treks that explores the Hidden Valley and the esteemed base camps is Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek.

Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek starts at Darbang and heads west before following an ascending trail due north. Passing Muri and Dobhan, you reach the Italian Base Camp. Here, you acclimatize for a day and continue to Glacier Camp. This is the second acclimatization spot on the trek. Further, you head to Dhaulagiri Base Camp with the view of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m). Crossing over the French Col Pass (5367m), you enter the glorious Hidden Valley. As you spend a day exploring the valley, you also have the option to climb the Dhampus Peak (6012m). Finally, the trek over the Dhampus Pass (5225m) will take you to Jomsom. For the last part of the trip, you can explore Pokhara and Kathmandu.

Experience Required

Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is a strenuous journey across off-beat trails in western Nepal. So, trekkers must be at the peak of their physical condition and mental fortitude. If you choose to climb Dhampus Peak (6012m), you might also need skills in using climbing equipment. Similarly, we include ample time to acclimatize to the high altitude. Also, the autumn season (September to November) and spring season (March to May) is the best time for the trek.
