Everest Base Camp via Gokyo

Walk the trail that epitomizes the adventure in the Everest region on the Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Chola Pass. With the majestic Himalayas decorating the horizon, the entire trek is a celebration of the snowy peaks. Also, the ravishing Sagarmatha National Park and the opulence of wildlife is one of the highlights of the trek. Moreover, the trek also includes exploration of the Gokyo Valley and crossing the Chola Pass (5420m).

The highest mountain in the world- Mt. Everest (8848m) is the subject of pride to all the Nepalese. Thanks to its widespread fame, trekkers and adventure enthusiasts flock to the Everest region and Khumbu Valley. As such, the Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Chola Pass is a trip to the Khumbu Valley that puts diverse natural and cultural heritage on display. Starting from Kathmandu, a short flight takes you to the gateway to Everest- Lukla.

Initially, the trail heads north from Lukla and heads to Namche Bazaar. After exploring the Sherpa town, you will ascend to Gokyo Valley via Dole and Machhermo. Here, you acclimatize with the altitude and head east to the Chola Pass (5420m). The top of the pass offers a beautiful vista of the Himalayas in the Everest range. Gradually, you reach the Khumbu Glacier and head to the Everest Base Camp. The next destination on the trek is the Kalapatthar viewpoint, where you can enjoy the view of Mt. Everest (8848m), Nuptse (7861m), and other mountains. The return trek stretches past Sherpa villages like Pangboche and Tengboche to settle at Lukla.

This trek in the Khumbu Valley explores regions above 3,000 meters. As such, trekkers must be physically fit and acclimatize with the altitude properly. The trail is a moderate plus one and requires trekkers to walk for 5-6 hours daily that can extend to 8-9 hours on longer days. So, prior trekking experience can be beneficial when doing this trek. Similarly, the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons are ideal for heading to the region.
